Undergraduate Family Business Club Announces New Executive Team

Thursday January 28, 2021

The Undergraduate Family Business Club is excited to announce the brand new 2021 executive team! Alex Sorto will be leading the group as this year’s President after serving as the Treasurer last year. He is a Junior economics major with minors in geographic information science and sustainability studies. Being third generation in his family’s business based in Honduras, Blue Mountain Specialty Coffee, makes him excited to build on the Family Business Club’s relationship with a similar club in Brazil and hopefully other Latin American countries.

Chloe Barbu, a Sophomore business administration major and entrepreneurship minor, will serve as Vice President. She is second generation at Stylecraft Homes and wants to use the passion she has developed for her family’s business to create a strong vision for the Family Business Club. Chloe is also a member of Carolina Women in Business and is the marketing coordinator for their Jewels of Hope philanthropy.

Donna Maria Crink will leverage the skills she has learned from her business administration major and advertising and public relations minor to serve as the club Marketing & PR Chair. She is a sophomore that will bring extensive social media knowledge to help the Family Business Club grow. Donna’s family business is The LeatherWorks Design Studio and she is second generation.

Ragan Copeland brings a unique perspective to the executive team being fifth generation at her family’s businesses, Apex Nurseries and Chatham Boatworks. She is a freshman business administration major and couldn’t be more excited to serve as Communications Chair. When Ragan isn’t hanging with the Family Business Club, you will find her working with a competitive jump roping team.

Valeria Schad is excited to take on the task of serving as Treasurer this year. She is a freshman business administration major, and has quickly gotten super involved at Carolina. Her involvements range from the International Business Club to CHAARG, a health and fitness community. Valeria is fourth generation at Frederic Schad SAS (SCHAD) based in the Dominican Republic.

Last, but certainly not least, is our Alumni Relations Chair, Zach VanWingerden. He is a sophomore business administration major, on the pre-medical track. His family’s business is Metrolina Greenhouses and Zach is third generation. Not only does he have big plans for connecting our undergraduate members with alumni, but he is a dedicated member of the UNC Club Spikeball team.
